1. IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ONLINE ENROLMENT AT THE NZSM
— How do I enrol at the New Zealand School of
Music (NZSM)?
Victoria University of Wellington (VUW) has been contracted
to process enrolments and provide NZSM ID cards for the New Zealand
School of Music.
Undergraduates & Honours Students
Enrol in NZSM
papers and other VUW papers through
the VUW
Online Enrolment system. Enrol in other non-NZSM
Massey papers through the Massey
University Online Enrolment system. See Section
2 below for links to both the VUW and Massey Online Enrolment
systems.
Please
note: adding non-NZSM Massey papers to your degree will require
the completion of a separate enrolment from Massey University;
these papers will then be cross-credited to your NZSM degree.
Postgraduate Students (Masters, PhD, GDipMus, PGDip,
Artist Dip)
The GDipMUs and the PGDipMus should enrol online; thesis based programmes are paper enrolments.

If you are an international student (i.e. you are or will be
studying on a Student Visa) you will need to apply for admission
either through Victoria International or Massey International.

— Do I need to audition?
Entrance to 100-level and postgraduate Classical Performance and
Jazz Performance papers is subject to audition.
Students transferring from other institutions to the NZSM at
any level will also need to audition for
classical or jazz performance papers. Please click

Entrance to 200-level and postgraduate Composition papers
is subject to submission of a portfolio. see Composition/Sonic arts
— What level of music theory do I need to enrol?
MUSC 166 is a core papers required for majors in Composition, Classical
Performance, and some Music Studies sprcilisations. This paper assumes that you have a certain level
of musicianship and music theory before you begin.
To be accepted into MUSC 166 Classical Theory 1 you must provide proof of:
- EITHER having passed Grade 5 theory (Trinity, ABRSM, or AMEB)
- OR having achieved NCEA Music level three
(including Module 3.5) [Practical Music: AS90530]
- OR having Bursary Music
- OR having obtained B+ or above in NZSM 160
- OR having been enrolled previously in an
approved university "Materials of Music" or "Musicianship" paper.
As soon as you have sent off your enrolment application please
bring your documentation to the Enrolments Office, Hunter Building,
Victoria University, Kelburn Parade. Or you can post it to Enrolments
Office, Victoria University of Wellington, P.O. Box 600, Welington
6140.
Alternatively, students can sit a NZSM entrance test.
If you wish to take the test in January or February please contact
the New Zealand School of Music to make an appointment (tel.
04 463 5369). Venue: New Zealand School of Music, Kelburn Campus.

3. IMPORTANT DATES AND DEADLINES

4. IMPORTANT STUDYLINK INFORMATION
When applying online for Student Loans, Allowances or other Studylink-administered
funds, you will be asked to enter your Education Provider. Enter "Victoria"
into the search box, and you will be presented with a list containing
the NZSM campuses. Select the one that you will be studying at.
Please note that if you are asked to enter an education
provider in the future, and you are not given the NZSM campus
options, please specify Victoria University as your education
provider.
