BMus majors – tailoring your study

While each major has its specialised set of papers, each individual degree pathway is intended to provide a rounded musical education. We expect all students to acquire some music literacy and understanding of music in its cultural context: everyone takes some music theory, and music studies papers. Students of Composition include a musical performance paper in their BMus, and Music Studies majors include a ‘creative’ paper (performance or composition).

We aim also to ensure that if you want to change your major after your first year, you have fallback options within the BMus programme.

See also our qualifications pathways to understand how all our degree programmes work.

Foundation Certificate in Jazz

We also offer a pre-tertiary Foundation Certificate in Jazz if you are looking to enrol in the BMus in Jazz but need to improve your skills and knowledge before auditioning.
