Varsity Voices
The Chamber Choir, Varsity Voices (formerly known as Victoria Voices), is a
mixed choir of 20-25 singers, whose repertoire consists of mostly unaccompanied
works from the Renaissance period to the present day. Programmes have included
Elizabethan madrigals, Victorian parlour songs, Brahms motets, Purcell anthems,
Britten's Rejoice in the Lamb, Bach's Magnificat in D, Thomas
Luis Victoria’s Motet and Mass O Magnum Mysterium and Bernstein's
Chichester Psalms. The Choir’s director is Peter Walls.
In 2004 the choir performed Bach’s cantata Ein Feste Burg for
the Lutheran Church in Newtown. More recently the choir performed Palestrina’s
Missa Salvum Me Fac at a lunchtime concert at St Andrews on the Terrace.
The choir also made up the chorus for Opera Victoria’s 2005 production of
Mozart’s The Magic Flute and The Enchanted Isle by David
Farquhar.
Rehearsals take place on Wednesdays from 6 to 8pm in the Hunter Council Chamber.
Auditions are held at the beginning of the first trimester.
