Performance Activities
The New Zealand School of Music offers a variety of performance
opportunities for students who are majoring in performance as well as students
keen to participate in music making. Some of the activities listed here are intrinsic
to performance programmes, some are entered by audition and some fulfill a more
social function.
Baroque Workshop
The Baroque Workshop is an opportunity for interested students to meet
each week to study baroque performance using instruments from the University's
early instrument collection.
Big Band
Led by Rodger Fox, this award-winning jazz ensemble performs a collection of jazz standards,
blues, funk and swing regularly throughout Wellington.
Guitar Ensemble
The NZSM Guitar Ensemble comprises the classical guitar students of the New Zealand
School of Music, and are coached by Dr Jane Curry.
Indonesian Gamelan
The gamelan, a traditional Javanese instrument collection, is a vibrant
part of the school of music. The ensemble plays traditional Javanese repertoire
as well as collaborating with many other musicians and performers in concerts.
NZSM Orchestra
The NZSM Orchestra offers an excellent opportunity for New Zealand's
future performers to gain orchestral experience.
