Lilburn Electroacoustic Music Studios

Douglas Lilburn (pictured) first developed electronic music studios at Victoria University of Wellington in 1963. These studios, situated in the basement of the Hunter Building, were to produce the first generation of electroacoustic composers in New Zealand (Jack Body, Ross Harris, John Rimmer, John Cousins, Denis Smalley, etc). When the new facilities for the School of Music were opened in 1980, two custom-designed spaces were created for electronic music composition. Since then two other dedicated spaces have also been developed. This section details the facilities available in the four Lilburn Electroacoustic Music Studios.
