Library

Students at the NZSM will have access to the central libraries at both Kelburn and Mt Cook campuses. Your student ID card will double as a library card. You can access the course catalogue of each library via the internet at either www.vuw.ac.nz/library or http://library.massey.ac.nz

The Central Library, Kelburn Campus, is in the Rankine Brown building beside the Quad. Music resources in this library can be found in several places.

• Most scores, music history, music biography and music reference books will be found in the M and ML section in the middle of the 5th floor.
• Music periodicals and journals are at the south end of the 5th floor and older editions are found on the ground floor.
• Some high demand music books may be on the 3rd floor in the three-day loan section and can be issued from the main counter on the second floor.
• Some high demand music books may also be found on close reserve at the close reserve counter on the 2nd floor. These books are not part of the general lending collection and may not be taken from the library.

The Central Library has an Audiovisual Suite providing services and facilities for videos, DVDs, various formats of sound recordings, and microforms. There is also a reference librarian who is available by appointment to offer specialist subject assistance to graduate students.

The Kelburn Campus also houses the small Frederick Page library which complements the central Kelburn library music collection. Providing access to relevant course materials, the Frederick Page Library is a place where students can work in a quiet and productive environment, working at the study tables or listening carrousels.

The Massey Library at Mt Cook Campus is located near Block 5, via Entrance A, off Wallace St. To make the locating of music resources as easy as possible all of the different formats have been brought together in the one location on level 5B of the library. This includes reference books, the lending collection, periodicals, scores, CDs and DVDs. The CD and DVD collection is a lending collection. Materials can be located through the library catalogue and also through the Music subject page. The collection is particularly strong in jazz with some classical material. The music College Liaison Librarian is Elizabeth Smith who can assist with subject searching and purchasing. Help is also available from subject librarians at the Information Desk.
